INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Beatrice Venezi, the youngest orchestra director in Europe, declared at San Remo Music Festival that she didn't want to be called "direttrice" and that she preferred to be called "direttore" instead! That gave rise to a large number of debates. She was harshly criticized because of that.
Another famous orchestra conductor Gianna Fratta wrote the following post on Facebook: "ERI SERA A SANREMO UN SALTO INDIETRO DI 50 ANNI PER TUTTE LE DONNE E GLI UOMINI DI QUESTO PAESE E UNO SCHIAFFO IN FACCIA ALLE TANTE CHE SI SONO BATTUTE E ANCORA SI BATTONO PER LA PARITÀ. Amadeus la chiama direttrice, essendo una donna, e lei lo corregge con direttore.Ecco come distruggere in un secondo, davanti a milioni di italiani, il cammino lungo e spesso tortuoso di migliaia di donne. "La mia professione ha un nome ed è direttore": ecco, ancora, come inanellare in una frase parole, perchè di concetti non mi pare opportuno parlare, in grado di ignorare contemporaneamente grammatica, lingua, processi, percorsi di decenni. Su Rai Uno si veicola, in diretta, in prima serata, un messaggio pericoloso e diseducativo nella forma e nei contenuti, davanti a milioni di giovani. Già li sento i vari "i problemi sono ben altri", "pensate ai contenuti", "le lotte non sono queste", "ministra è cacofonico", "il ruolo non ha sesso". Ci combatto da una vita e grazie alle mie lotte di direttrice d'orchestra e alle lotte di tutte quelle prima di me, la signora di ieri può stare su un podio; cosa impensabile fino a qualche decennio fa. Ma torniamo alla nostra lingua, a come, se ce ne fosse bisogno, può essere modificata per come si modifica la realtà, a come può diventare strumento di emancipazione, di cambiamento, di parità. Riflettevo, ad esempio, sul fatto che nessuna SARTA si sognerebbe di dire “scusi, mi chiami SARTO, lo preferisco”, mentre ancora esistono avvocate, direttrici d’orchestra, ministre che rivendicano il cosiddetto “maschile professionale”, retaggio di una sottocultura che degrada il femminile. Non è che siamo più autorevoli, credibili, competenti se ci facciamo chiamare col maschile, siamo solo meno consapevoli, dunque più insicure. Strano, poi, che più il lavoro è figo, altolocato, più numerose sono le donne dei no, scusi, preferisco ministro, prego, mi chiami ingegnere, per cortesia, direttore, per carità, avvocato.Non è una rivendicazione femminista la mia, forse è una questione di politica di genere, ma soprattutto è una questione di consapevolezza. Non è una polemica o una battaglia sessista, tanto meno una recriminazione, è l'italiano, è la nostra lingua e come va usata, come, eventualmente può essere anche modificata con i cambiamenti sociali (ma non è questo il caso, perché il femminile di direttore c’è e può e deve usarsi). Che avrebbe potuto fare Amadeus? Se una ti chiede di chiamarla direttore devi chiamarla direttore! Eh, no, non è che se ti chiedo di chiamare l'orchestra televisione la chiami così! Mi sarei aspettata da Amadeus un bel "guardi, io la chiamo per come devo, per come si deve, per come la nostra lingua richiede, per come è corretto per lei e per tutte le donne". Almeno lui poteva. Da lei, invece, evidentemente non ci si poteva aspettare di più. I tempi sono maturi, anzi marci! Non sentiamoci più fighe a farci chiamare avvocato o direttore, che rischiamo solo di passare per persone che hanno bisogno di sentirsi “maschi” per essere considerate brave, nel migliore dei casi, per ignoranti, nel peggiore. E con noi chi ci asseconda. Il cambiamento parte da noi! Dalle donne e dagli uomini capaci di cambiare il mondo. Dalle direttrici e maestre d’orchestra che sanno di esserlo! Da chi non vuole lasciare il pianeta che ha trovato, ma cambiarlo in un mondo migliore e più giusto per tutti. Un mondo in cui la parità viene anelata ad ogni livello, in ogni modo, con ogni mezzo e il combattimento alle disuguaglianze, intolleranze, discriminazioni altrettanto.

Holocaust Memorial Day
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) takes place on 27 January each year and is a time to remember the millions of people murdered during the Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution and in the genocides which followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.
Holocaust Memorial Day is a time when we seek to learn the lessons of the past and recognize that genocide does not just take place on its own - it’s a steady process which can begin if discrimination, racism and hatred are not checked and prevented. However, discrimination has not ended, nor has the use of the language of hatred or exclusion. There is still much to do to create a safer future and HMD is an opportunity to start this process.
Holocaust Memorial Day was created on 27 January 2000, when representatives from 46 governments around the world met in Stockholm to discuss Holocaust education, remembrance and research. At the end of this meeting, all attendees signed a declaration committing to preserving the memory of those who have been murdered in the Holocaust. This declaration became the statement of commitment which is still used as a basis for HMD activities today.
